More than 350 farmers from across Wisconsin gathered for Ag Day at the Capitol on Wednesday and they were united by one central concern: advocating for the issues that matter most to the farming community. One of the farmers’ top priorities this year is improving the conditions of rural roads. In 2023, the state introduced the Agricultural Road Improvement Program, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the nation aimed at addressing the deteriorating infrastructure that is crucial for local farmers. While the program was successful in its first year, the current budget allocation for the same program is far too little. Another key issue discussed at the event was the Farm Bureau Health Plan, which aims to provide affordable insurance options for farmers who often struggle to secure adequate coverage. As Wisconsin farmers continue to face challenges in a changing agricultural landscape, they are pressing for more comprehensive support from state lawmakers to ensure the continued health and sustainability of the farming community.
