State officials will visit Platteville this week to present plans to control the spread of an invasive moth species in western Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection will host a meeting from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Platteville Public Library to discuss plans for the treatment and control of the spongy moth. Spongy moth program staff will discuss plans for aerial spraying to take place later this year in southwest Wisconsin to kill spongy moth caterpillars and spread a mating disruptor that is not harmful to humans but prevents adult moths from mating.
