This week, Dubuque hosted the annual Special Olympics Winter Games for the 37th year. Over 200 athletes and unified partners participated in competitions such as alpine skiing, cross country skiing, and snow shoeing. During Monday night’s opening ceremony, Special Olympics Global Messenger and athlete, Andrew Allen told the crowd, he found Special Olympics after his school did not offer athletic opportunities for people with special needs.
Allen started Special Olympics playing basketball and says he finally found a place where he can be like everyone else. Allen offered this piece of advice to competing athletes
