On Friday [December 20] at 7:10 a.m., 37 year old Andrew McQuirk of Boscobel, was traveling south on Highway 61 near the intersection of Hy-Point Rd, in North Lancaster in a Town and Country Sanitation garbage truck. The road conditions were snow covered and slippery, and as McQuirk approached Hy-Point Rd., a Lancaster School bus was stopped near the intersection to pick up a student. The school bus had its emergency lights and stop sign deployed. McQuirk attempted to stop but was unable to, due to the road conditions. As a result, the garbage truck slid into the back of the school bus. At the time, the bus was carrying four students. Lancaster EMS responded to the scene, and one student was transported to Grant Regional Health Center for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported. McQuirk was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Lancaster EMS, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
