Grant County allocates remaining ARPA funds

In their final planned meeting of 2024, the Grant County Board of Supervisors finished one task they need to get done before 2025. They needed to allocate the final $1.29 million from the COVID-recovery era American Rescue Plan to be used for county projects. Grant County originally received $9.991 million and all but $1.29 million was used for a new emergency communications system. The remaining money needs to be spent by the end of 2026 but allocated before the end of this year. There was discussion about a few potential projects, but ultimately the Board voted to fund updates on the former BMO building to be the future home of Unified Community Services. Unified Community Serivces is the joint agency between Iowa and Grant Counties which handles support for those dealing with mental health, substance abuse, and developmental disability issues.
