The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Friday Wisconsin ranked first in the nation for the amount of prescription drugs collected during the fall 2024 Drug Take Back Day. The state collected 55,493 pounds of medications the DOJ reported. It has collected more than 1.3 million pounds since drug take back efforts began in 2010. Wisconsin is only behind Texas and California for the most medications collected since inception. Those states have collected more than 1.4 million pounds of medications each.
The spring and fall Drug Take Back Days are led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). They are meant to provide a safe and convenient way to dispose unwanted and unused medications while raising awareness about potential consequences of improper storage and disposal of these drugs.
