Just as mosquito season is winding down, Eau Claire County has identified their first case of West Nile Virus in a human. That’s according to the county’s health department, who confirmed the case on Wednesday. West Nile Virus is a mosquito-borne illness that can cause fever, headache, fatigue, and muscle aches 2-14 days after the mosquito bite. In some rare cases, it can be fatal. The majority of people who get West Nile Virus do not get sick, roughly 80%. Wisconsin sees an average of 18 cases each year.
