A single-family home near the village of Blanchardville is a total loss after a fire engulfed it on Thursday. Blanchardville Fire Chief Rolly McGowan said firefighters were called to the home on Highway 78 at 8:38 a.m. after a passerby called to report the fire. No one was home at the time of the fire and when crews arrived, flames were coming out on both sides of the structure. The incident disrupted traffic for several hours on Highway 78, north and south, at County F. Fire crews were on scene until about 3 p.m. Thursday and were called back Friday morning after the fire rekindled. McGowan said some dogs at the property are still missing and they’re unsure if the dogs escaped or perished. McGowan believes the fire may have started in the kitchen. An exact cause remains under investigation.
