Dubuque police said a school threat that circulated locally on social media and prompted parent concerns is not credible and appears to have not originated locally. Dubuque police on Tuesday became aware of a message posted on Snapchat that referenced “shooting up hms,” a Police Department press release states. An investigation determined there is no indication the message referenced any school in Dubuque and that it is not a credible threat. Authorities believe the post “originated from the eastern side of the country.” There was an increased police presence at several Dubuque schools today “out of an abundance of caution.” Several schools in Wisconsin also received threatening messages this week. The threat caused Gov. Evers to cancel a scheduled visit to Hurley High school this week. Authorities verified there was no threat to the school, staff, students, or the governor. Hurley school was never placed in a lockdown, as several police officers were there anticipating the governor’s arrival.
