Relatives of a fallen Dodgeville soldier will finally get to say goodbye to him decades after he died. Army Corporal Robert Raess was killed during the Korean War. Raess was a member of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. According to a report, he was 21-year-old when he was reported missing in action in South Korea in September 1950. He was declared dead in December of 1953. Remains of Korean War unknowns were exhumed in July 2018 from the National memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii for identification. Investigators used DNA to officially identify Cpl, Raess and was officially accounted for baby the Defense of POW/MIA Accounting Agency in March of this year. Raess will be buried at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Dodgeville on September 7th.
