An Illinois man died Thursday afternoon following a crash with a semi trailer near New Glarus Brewing Company. Green County Sheriff Cody Kanable said the crash was reported at around 4:05 p.m. along State Highway 69 north of Valley View Road. An investigation found that a southbound semi on the highway was waiting for oncoming traffic to pass so it could turn into the driveway of a business on the east side of the road. A pickup truck, driven by a 52-year-old man from Shannon, Ill., then rear-ended the semi trailer. Members of the New Glarus Fire Department had to extract the pickup truck driver and performed life-saving measures, however he ultimately died at the scene. the airbags of the pickup truck did deploy, however the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the semi, a 54-year-old rural Monroe man, was not injured and the semi was driven from the scene.
