A U.S. Army soldier from Dodgeville, who was reported missing in action during the Korean War, was accounted for in March the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced Tuesday. 21-year-old U.S. Army Cpl. Robert P. Raess was part of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was reported missing near Changnyeong, South Korea on Sept. 1, 1950 and was declared dead on Dec. 31, 1953. In April, remains from a United Nations Military Cemetary in South Korea were sent for analysis and the lab was able to positively identify Raess. Raess will be buried in Dodgeville on Sept. 7. His name is recorded in the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific alongside other soldiers who went missing during the Korean War. A rosette will be placed next to his name, indicating that he is accounted for.
