A tri-state area heat advisory has local officials urging residents to take precautions to stay safe during a week of extreme high temperatures. Peak afternoon heat indices of 95 to 100 degrees and overnight temperatures in the 70s prompted the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory effective through 8 p.m. tonight in Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson and Jones counties in Iowa and Jo Daviess County in Illinois. Folks should keep blinds shut during the day, use window fans if they do not have air conditioning, wear light colored and loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. If it can be avoided, People are advised to limit their time spent doing strenuous activities outside. Individuals are urged to check on their neighbors, especially if they are at higher risk of heat-related health issues.
