Crawford County stabbing update

Officials released more details on a stabbing incident in Crawford County Wednesday night. According to Sheriff Dale McCullick, reports first came in of a stabbing at an apartment complex on County Highway N just before 9:00 p.m. in Wauzeka. An investigation found that three people in the apartment were drinking, before two men got into a fight. Authorities claim 49-year-old Jeffery Hazen stabbed 56-year-old Daryl Vandecreek 18 times with a knife during that fight. Vandecreek was airlifted to Gundersen in La Crosse and is now in stable condition. Law enforcement arrested Hazen for aggravated battery, reckless injury, threat(s) to law enforcement, and disorderly conduct. The incident remains under investigation.
