A Grant County jury recently found a Platteville man not guilty on two charges after police said he engaged in a standoff with them. 50-year-old Gerald Moon was found not guilty at his trial in Grant County Circuit Court on charges of disorderly conduct and false imprisonment — both with domestic abuse assessment modifiers. A Grant County Sheriff’s Department press release states that deputies were notified in the early morning of Nov. 2 of a disturbance on Southwest Lane in Platteville Township. Authorities received a report that Moon “had possibly armed himself with a rifle and was standing on a rooftop.” Police said Moon fled from the residence on foot prior to the arrival of responding officers. A short time later, Moon barricaded himself in the second-story loft of a nearby shed. Officers eventually used a non-lethal chemical spray to get Moon to comply with orders to surrender.
