Iowa DOT Bridge Washing Causes Detour for Eastbound Traffic on Julien Dubuque Bridge. Due to bridge washing being performed by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), the eastbound lanes of the Julien Dubuque Bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday through Friday. The westbound lanes of the bridge will remain open. Eastbound traffic will be detoured using U.S. Highways 61/151 to the Iowa-Wisconsin Bridge. Once in Wisconsin, traffic will use Wisconsin and Illinois state highways 35 to return to U.S. Highway 20 in East Dubuque.
The second phase of the DOT’s Highway 61/151 Peosta Channel Bridge Deck Overlay Project began yesterday meaning traffic will be merged into a two-way traffic pattern in the northbound lanes of Highway 61/151. The southbound entrance ramp from Kerper Blvd. and the southbound exit ramp at 9th/11th St. will be closed. The southbound exit ramp for Kerper Boulevard and Chaplain Schmitt Island will be accessible during the project. The Iowa DOT expects the bridge replacement project to be finished in August 2025.
