The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Friday, resulting in the county’s fourth traffic fatality of the year. At approximately 12:09 PM emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 18/151 westbound at County K in the Town of Brigham. Preliminary investigation reveals that 47-year-old Luke Mac Lean of Belleville was traveling westbound on Highway 18/151 when he collided with a semi-tractor and its trailer driven by 39-year-old Ranjit Singh. Singh had just entered the westbound lanes from County K and was accelerating to highway speed when Mac Lean collided with the rear of the semi. Mac Lean was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iowa County Coroner. Singh was not injured in the incident and was able to remove the semi from the scene. The westbound lanes of Highway 18/151 remained closed for approximately 4.5 hours, reopening at 4:47 PM. Sheriff Michael Peterson said, “This intersection has been the site of numerous serious incidents and continues to be a known danger for motorists. It is imperative that corrective measures be taken to improve safety before more lives are lost. In the meantime, I strongly encourage drivers to avoid entering Highway 18/151 directly from County Highway K.”
