A Dubuque woman has been sentenced to two years of probation after police said she was intoxicated when she drove her vehicle with two children inside. 39-year-old April L. Bergfeld received the sentence from Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to second-offense operating while intoxicated, assault on persons in certain occupations and interference with official acts. A charge of neglect or abandonment of a dependent person was dismissed as part of the plea agreement. The charges stem from a Nov. 9 incident in which Bergfeld was intoxicated while driving with two juveniles in her vehicle. Documents state that a police officer instructed Bergfeld to remain in her vehicle but that she stepped out and started walking toward the squad car, grabbed the officer’s forearm and pulled it while pinching it.
