Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers visited Platteville’s wastewater treatment facility Tuesday to hear from city leaders about their progress on infrastructure improvements partially funded by the state. Platteville Public Works Director Howard Crofoot updated Evers on the efforts to replace lead service lines in the city’s water system. The city started the initiative nearly 10 years ago. Crofoot said 616 lead service lines in the city have been replaced, with 42 remaining. Evers noted lead-removal projects would not be an ongoing expense and should therefore be funded while the state is at a budget surplus. City leaders also discussed with Evers a recent $2 million project to replace the community’s emergency generator at the wastewater treatment plant.
