The second phase of the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Highway 61/151 Peosta Channel Bridge Deck Overlay Project will begin on Monday. Crews will be improving the surface of the bridge over the Peosta Channel north of 16th St. The project will require the closure of the southbound lanes of Highway 61/151 from the Wisconsin Bridge exit to the 9th St./11th St. interchange. Beginning Monday Highway 61/151 inside lanes will close in both directions for the removal of median barriers. On Wednesday, both southbound lanes of Highway 61/151 will be closed and traffic will be merged into a two-way traffic pattern in the northbound lanes of the highway. The southbound entrance ramp from Kerper Blvd. and the southbound exit ramp at 9th/11th St. will be closed. The southbound exit ramp for Kerper Boulevard and Chaplain Schmitt Island will be accessible during the project. The Iowa DOT expects the bridge replacement project to be finished in August 2025.
