Democrats are looking for state residents to consider overturning a Supreme Court decision on their 2026 ballots. “Citizens United vs the Federal Elections Commission” allows for unlimited corporate spending in elections. Lawmakers in both the State Senate and Assembly announced the re-introduction of the resolution. They are looking for a statewide referendum to overturn that ruling. Proponents of the amendment say the Citizens United ruling allows corporations to be treated like people in campaigns which they say gives more power to large, faceless entities. They say the amendment would bring the power back to the people. This would be a vote on the ballot in the November 2026 election. The amendment is not currently on the ballot.
