On Thursday at approximately 1:10pm, Dubuque Police were notified of a general threat of violence involving Hempstead High School. Officers responded to the school and immediately began investigating the threat. Officers coordinated with Dubuque Community School District staff to provide an elevated level of security for students and staff through dismissal time. This included increasing the number of officers present at the school out of an abundance of caution. Based on the preliminary investigation, this threat does not seem credible. However, the Dubuque Police Department takes all threats of violence very seriously and this incident remains under investigation. If you have any information on this incident or others, please call the Dubuque Police Department at 563-589-4415.
