On Friday the Cuba CIty School District learned that their FEMA BRIC grant has been canceled due to a federal policy change. This $8.79 million project would have funded a 22,551-square-foot community safe room, designed to protect students and residents from tornadoes and severe weather. The facility was planned to provide critical safety resources, including a backup generator and flood mitigation measures. While this is an unexpected setback they are looking forward to getting to work on their voter-approved building project from November, 2022.
