A nurse anesthetist who prosecutors say stole drugs from hospitals in Platteville and Dubuque has been sentenced to three months in federal prison. 42-year-old Ian Lindsey of Mineral Point received the sentence after previously pleading guilty to one count of acquiring a controlled substance by misrepresentation, fraud, deception and subterfuge and one count of false statement relating to health care matters. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Lindsey to three months in prison and six months of home confinement and fined him $5,000. There is no parole in the federal system. The release states Lindsey admitted to “diverting significant amounts of fentanyl and other drugs” from a Platteville hospital from which he was fired in 2017. From October 2022 to at least January 25, 2023, Lindsey diverted fentanyl from close to 50 patients at a Dubuque hospital. Lindsey maintains valid nursing licenses in multiple states.
