A man who possessed child pornography while living in Dubuque was sentenced to a year in jail. 47-year-old Jason P. Schmitt of Hudson, Fla., recently received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County from District Associate Judge Mark Hostager after pleading guilty to three counts of possession of child sexual exploitation material. Three additional counts of the same charge were dismissed per a plea agreement. Court documents state police were notified by National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Dropbox accounts into which suspected child pornography was uploaded tracked to a device used in Dubuque. A Dubuque police investigation found the Dropbox account was associated with a phone number and Google email addresses used by Schmitt.
