A 21-year-old is facing charges in Dubuque, for allegedly charging and dragging another man with his truck Friday night. Elias Croft is facing charges of assault while displaying a weapon, OWI (second offense), and third degree harassment. He is currently being held on a $20,000 bond. According to the criminal complaint, officers were dispatched to the Wendy’s on 16th Street around 8 p.m.- for a report of a hit and run with a Dodge Ram. On traffic cameras, Croft and another man are shown in the vehicle, having a verbal argument. It escalated into a physical argument, with Croft throwing items at the other man, and the other man reaching into the truck to punch Croft. As the man walked in front of the truck, Croft then allegedly accelerated, striking the man, causing him to bounce backwards off of the vehicle. The victim then attempted to reach into the truck- when Croft allegedly accelerates again, with the victim being dragged approximately 15 feet. An officer pulled Croft over for driving through a stop sign minutes later- and matched his vehicle description with the one involved in the hit and run. Officers report Croft had a BAC of .129. At the Dubuque Police Station, Croft allegedly became uncooperative, and made several racial slurs towards officers. Croft will have a preliminary hearing on March 31st at 10:50 a.m.
