On Thursday at approximately 7:52 am, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a two-vehicle crash on County U, near the intersection of Black Jack Road in Waterloo Township. Roads were snow covered and slippery. The initial investigation determined 20-year-old Spencer Meyer-Steiger of rural Potosi was traveling eastbound on County U, approaching the bridge over the Grant River. At the same time, a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Craig Hendrickson of Cuba City was traveling westbound on County U. Both vehicles collided on the deck of the bridge. Hendrickson’s vehicle came to rest on the southeast side of the bridge and Meyer-Steiger’s vehicle came to rest on it’s roof in the westbound lane. Cassville Fire and EMS, along with Glen Haven First Responders were dispatched to the scene. As a result of the collision, Hendrickson suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Grant County Coroner. Meyer-Steiger was evaluated at the scene by EMS, but did not require transport. The Wisconsin State Patrol was called in to assist with the accident reconstruction and the crash remains under investigation. County U was closed from County N to Blackjack Road from the time of the crash until approximately 2:00pm. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Cassville EMS, Cassville Fire Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Grant County Highway Department.
