Dubuque County is under a county-wide ban on burning effective today. The ban was ordered by proclamation of Iowa State Fire Marshal Dan Wood. The proclamation states that conditions “are such that open burning constitutes a danger to life or property.” The ban does not include the use of outdoor fireplaces or barbecue grills, or the burning of trash in incinerators or trash burners made of metal, concrete, masonry or heavy, 1-inch wire mesh, according to the state fire marshal division website. Violation of the ban is a simple misdemeanor under Iowa code.
