City leaders in Dubuque are responding to this week’s officer-involved shooting on Christmas Eve. The incident was the first police shooting in Dubuque in 15 years. In a statement from the city issued on Friday, the city says officers tried to use a stun gun to stop the 16-year-old suspect who had a knife. The police department says the stun gun failed and the teen ran at officers swinging the knife before he was shot. The city says that the teen is recovering from his injuries and is in custody facing multiple charges. Leaders also said they have met with community leaders to discuss how the community may be impacted by the shooting.
