Police say a Grant County man is in custody as a result of a continuing investigation into the death of man in Prairie du Chien. Prairie du Chien police responded at 10:18 p.m. Friday to a residence in the 1000 block of East Wisconsin Street for a welfare check. A release states that officers located a deceased male inside of a residence. An investigation found wounds consistent with trauma caused by a sharp object. Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and requested the assistance of the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation Mobile Crime Lab and Forensic Unit. An additional search warrant was requested and granted for a residence in Grant County. Prairie du Chien officers and members of the Southwest Wisconsin Emergency Response Team executed that search warrant at approximately 12:30 p.m. Saturday and arrested a 39-year-old man, who was taken to the Crawford County Jail. The release states that all indications are this act of violence was not random and that the suspect and victim knew each other. Authorities plan to release additional details, including names of people involved, on Monday. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office and the Southwest Wisconsin Emergency Response Team, assisted the Prairie Du Chien Police Department with the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Classic Lane in the Township of Platteville.
