A break-in occured recently at Little Cubs Field in Freeport, Illinois. Little Cubs Field is a replica of Wrigley Field in Chicago. Thieves broke into the gift shop and stole a significant amount of cash from the till. They even took the money from the donation jars. Police are investigating and there may be some video of the theft. The gift shop is run by a coalition between the Little Cubs Field Non Profit and the Greater Freeport Partnership. Thousands of visitors each year from all over the U.S. visit Little Cubs Field and puts up to $400,000 into the Stephenson County economy each year. A window was broken to gain entry and due to the size of the opening, created for access, for a small person to be able to get into the gift shop, but would have had help being lifted to get in the rest of the way, then opened the door from the inside for others to enter. Only cash and some food and drinks were taken and no vandalism occurred. Freeport Police are investigating. Anyone with knowledge of this crime can call (815) 235-8222.
