One of the highlights of last Thursday’s People’s Choice Country Awards was Brad Paisley debuting his rollicking new song, “Truck Still Works.” It turns out that current song has creative roots tied to Paisley’s 2004 hit single, “Mud on the Tires,” which went to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. Paisley again worked with songwriter Chris Dubois on “Truck Still Works,” just like he did on “Mud on the Tires,” though this time around the pair were joined by co-writers Will Bundy, Rodney Clawson, and Hunter Phelps. The girl at the heart of Paisley’s 2004 song is back in town again, and the singer is checking to see if the magic is still there as they “see if that truck still works.””There’s a lot of fun in throwing a memory in the middle of something new. Really that’s life, isn’t it?” says Paisley. “There’s nothing more complicated than the nostalgia of it. The palette for this whole thing is a return to this familiar territory, sonically and thematically.” (Holler)
