Madison police arrested a woman Tuesday night who they said broke into a downtown home and made herself dinner. Officers were called to a home ion South Livingston Street around 10:30 p.m. after a caller arrived home to find all of the lights on. They were able to see a woman walking around inside. Police arrived, and the woman came to the door after officers ordered to. Police said she claimed to have been given permission to be in the home and mentioned the homeowner by name. The woman allegedly told officers that she had met the homeowner at a coffee shop earlier in the day and had been given keys to the home. Police said the woman had been in the house long enough to cook herself a shrimp and pasta dinner, and had gone through the mail and other belongings in order to learn the name of the homeowner and make up a story. The homeowner maintained that they had never met the woman, and had not given her permission to be in the house. The woman was arrested and faces charges of residential burglary.
