The dairy industry in Wisconsin continues to have no reports of the H5N1 virus in lactating dairy cattle. However the possibility of the disease has prompted at least three county fairs to decide to keep lactating dairy cows off their respective fairgrounds entirely. The Barron County Fair at Rice Lake, Pierce County Fair at Ellsworth and the Jefferson County Fair at Jefferson have made that decision. Jefferson County will have lactating dairy cattle participate virtually-similar to what they did during Covid. Grant County Fair Officials will continue to monitor the situation and discuss it further at the next scheduled fairboard meeting in the middle of July. As of now-all lactating dairy cattle need to be tested within seven days of the start of the scheduled fair.
