Wednesday at approximately 9:30 am, members of the Dubuque Police Department, including Patrol officers and Criminal Investigations Division investigators, attempted to serve an arrest warrant at 955 Washington on a subject for two counts of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse. As officers were attempting to make contact at the door, they heard the sound of a gunshot. Officers immediately took cover and established a perimeter on the apartment. Notifications were made to adjacent apartments as well as the businesses housed in that building out of an abundance of caution. The Dubuque Police Tactical Entry Teams were summoned to assist with this incident. They brought a remote-controlled robot owned by the Department. After locating a subject inside using the robot, further verbal contact was attempted without success. Officers then made entry into the apartment and located a deceased adult male with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced deceased on scene by a Dubuque Fire paramedic. Additional information will be released pending notification of next of kin.
