The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a single vehicle crash on Highway 80 near Walnut Road, north of Platteville Thursday around 3am. It was found that several large horses escaped their pasture and 3 were running along Highway 80 when 21 year old Russell Books of Platteville collided with the 3 horses. Books was fatally injured as a result of the crash. The three horses were also fatally injured. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene was Platteville Fire, Southwest Health EMS, Precision Towing, and Lynch excavating. The crash remains under investigation. This is the third fatal crash in Grant County in 2024.
