The Wisconsin Department of Justice on Saturday provided an update to the incident in Mount Horeb Wednesday involving a student with a gun. In a statement, the Wisconsin DOJ said around 11:11 a.m., a citizen called 911 after seeing a person moving toward Mount Horeb Middle School with a backpack and what appeared to be a long gun. Officers directed the student, 14 year old Damian Haglund, to drop the weapon, but Haglund did not comply. The DOJ said when Haglund pointed the weapon at the officers, the officers fired, hitting Haglund. Despite lifesaving measures, Haglund died at the scene. The DOJ said the weapon recovered on the scene was a Ruger .177 pellet rifle. No law enforcement personnel or witnesses were physically injured in the incident. Involved law enforcement remain on administrative leave, per agency policy. The involved officers were wearing body cameras during the incident.
