Two members of the Clayton County Sheriff’s Department have been given Awards of Merit from Grant County Sheriff Nate Dreckman. Deputy Dylan Rumph and Dispatcher Tabitha Chambers were recognized for their teamwork and quick actions in the fall of 2022, which saved the life of a gunshot victim. On October 2nd, 2022, the Clayton County Communications Center received a 911 call of a gunshot incident on the Mississippi River with a subject being shot in the arm. Deputy Rumph and Dispatcher Chambers worked as a team assisting the victim’s wife with a makeshift tourniquet and making sure it was placed correctly. Due to the location, water levels, and obstructions first responders were able to get to the victim approximately 48 minutes later. Clayton County kept the 911 caller on the line and worked with Grant County Wisconsin Dispatch until first responders were able to locate the victim. The incident involved coordination of multiple agencies and resources and sharing of information between three different Communications Centers (Clayton County, Grant County, & Med-Flight). The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office would like to recognize the work done by Grant County dispatchers Tyler Kirschbaum & Michaela Nyhus during the incident.
