State Representative Travis Tranel of Cuba City has introduced the Starry Skies Preservation Bill to address the disproportionately impacted families and small-town communities who depend on clean, clear skies and outdoor tourism for their livelihood in areas such as the Driftless Region. Immediate action is needed help ensure a just and equitable transition to a carbon-free energy future from creating extensive environmental light pollution. Across the Midwest, interest in wind projects is on the rise as the region and the country shift from fossil fuels to renewables. In August 2019, with the issuance of Executive Order #38, Governor Tony Evers directed the Wisconsin Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy to create a comprehensive clean energy plan. The CEP seeks to put Wisconsin on a path for all electricity consumed within the state to be 100 percent carbon-free by 2050.
