The first layoffs at the Energizer Battery manufacturing plant in Fennimore is scheduled for today, kicking off a wind-down process that will end with the plant ceasing operations next fall. Reports say all 172 employees will be laid off and the plant is expected to close in September 2024. The plant is one of the largest employers in Fennimore, having previously operated as Rayovac and Spectrum Brands. It has been in operation since 1970. After announcing the closure, the company entered an agreement with the union to provide benefits such as severance, health insurance coverage and job placement assistance to all affected employees.
