On Friday, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit initiated a traffic stop on a pickup truck in the Village of Ferryville. The operator of the truck was identified as 35 year old Nicholas Smythe of DeSoto. K9 Diego was deployed and alerted to the presence of one or more controlled substances in the truck. A search of the truck was conducted, and the following was discovered; a baggie containing methamphetamine, a baggie containing fentanyl, and numerous items of drug paraphernalia. Smythe was arrested and taken to the Crawford County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony bail jumping.
