Dairy Days Parade Marshalls Announced

The Platteville Dairy Days Committee has announced the Parade Marshalls for the 76th Platteville Dairy Days Parade taking place on Saturday, September 9th . Each year the group tries to recognize a person, family, or group that has played a significant role in building the quality of life for the Platteville community regarding agriculture in general or has been instrumental in the growth of the Dairy Days event. This year, they have selected Joe and Kathy Kopp to represent our Annual Parade as the Parade Marshalls. Joe and Kathy Kopp have been involved in Platteville Dairy Days for over 30 years. Joe got involved by working as a volunteer for the lineup of the annual parade. He soon became the main staging marshal which meant working with the numerous volunteers whose responsibility was to ensure that the individual units were lined up and “out the gate” in good order, as well as organizing the clean-up crew that followed the parade. Kathy has been involved with Dairy Days since the early 1990’s by organizing and sponsoring the Dairy Days Queen Contest, back when Dick Brockman headed up Dairy Days. When she began working for the Chamber of Commerce, she became a member of the Dairy Days Committee and her duties expanded to include organizing the parade and many of the activities that took place throughout the weekend. She was responsible for the parade line-up, getting volunteers, ordering the trophies and ribbons, working with the Police & Fire Departments, and recruiting judges and announcers for the parade. She also continues to support Dairy Days by volunteering for the Platteville Optimist and Kiwanis Clubs and their concession stands. For the past few years, she has continued to help with announcing the parade. Joe and Kathy’s parade experience made them great candidates to help organize and stage the huge Disney parade in 1998.
