On Tuesday, just after 1pm, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls regarding a vehicle traveling north on Highway 151 in Platteville Township going “ditch to ditch.” There was not a deputy in position to respond so the Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Platteville Police Department to try and stop the vehicle. The vehicle was located at the County XX exit from Highway 151. A Platteville Police Department officer attempted to stop the vehicle and it was slow to stop. The officer also witnessed the vehicle deviate from its traffic lane. A sergeant from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office arrived and was told by the Platteville Police officer that the person smelled of intoxicants and appeared intoxicated. The driver, Eric Wilson, of Dubuque, was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. After an investigation, Wilson was arrested for OWI. He was taken to a local hospital for testing and eventually taken to the Grant County Jail due to not being able to locate a responsible party to pick him up. Wilson’s vehicle was blocking part of a lane of traffic when he stopped and was subsequently towed from the scene by Precision Towing of Platteville. Additional citations for Unsafe Lane Deviation may be issued.
