More than one year after he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his parents, Chandler Halderson is back in a Dane County courtroom today. Halderson’s case is scheduled for a hearing after Judge John Hyland determined two of the charges Halderson was convicted of in 2022 — hiding a corpse — should be withdrawn because they are considered “lesser-included” offenses. Since Halderson was convicted of two counts of mutilating a corpse in the case, the charges of hiding a corpse could be considered an unneccessary lower level charge. Defense attorney Jessa Nicholson, who is not affiliated with the case, says while the hearing is largely procedural and will not affect Halderson’s chances of appealing the case as a whole outside of the previous request for an appeal being withdrawn and refiled with the amended list of charges.
