According to the Public Service Commission, Wisconsin’s newest area code is set to launch next month. Area code 274 will be in service beginning May 5th. It will overlay the same area currently served by the 920 area code, which is expected to run out of available phone numbers by the first quarter of next year. Cities affected by the change include Green Bay, Appleton, Beaver Dam, Fort Atkinson, Watertown, Columbus, plus others. Elsewhere in the state, the 353 area code is set to launch later this year in the same area served by the 608 area code. Available phone numbers in the 608 area code, which serves much of south-central and southwestern Wisconsin, including the Madison and La Crosse areas, are currently projected to run out in 2024.
