Some voters in southern Wisconsin received text warnings on Friday – but the text had nothing to do with the severe weather. A report says that the texts included tones found on official emergency alerts aired on TV and radio, followed by a video announcing “a State of Wisconsin voter alert,” which warned that 2nd Amendment rights are under attack by Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasiewicz. Voters got the texts at midafternoon Friday while portions of southern Wisconsin were under tornado watches. The Democratic Party of Wisconsin called on the state Republican Party to “to immediately cease and desist” the texts intended to persuade people to vote for former Justice Dan Kelly, calling the texts were “dangerous, and profoundly irresponsible.” Republican Party of Wisconsin executive director Mark Jefferson said Democrats “need to stop insulting the voters’ intelligence,” and “stop trying to stifle free speech.
