The Richland County Sheriff’s Office identified a woman Friday who they said was found dead after a house fire Wednesday night. Officials said Beverly Burns of Richland Center died after a house fire on Tuckaway Valley Road. Emergency crews were called to the house at around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday. The house was fully engulfed in flames and collapsed when crews arrived. A man was found standing near a shed next to the house. He reportedly told firefighters that he had escaped through a window but believed his wife was still inside. The man was taken to Richland Hospital and emergency crews worked to put out the fire. Eventually, crews were able to search the residence and found Burns dead. The incident is under investigation, but officials say preliminary autopsy results do not suggest any suspicious circumstances surrounding Burns’ death.
