The WIAA is considering a football conference realignment plan, which could go into effect in 2024. Under the proposal, more than 100 schools would change conferences, with a dozen switching to 8-man football. In Southwest Wisconsin, the Six Rivers Conference would no longer exist. Three Six Rivers teams (Blackhawk-Warren, Pec-Argyle, and Potosi-Cassville) would join the Ridge and Valley Conference, while three other teams (Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg, River Ridge, and Southwestern-East Dubuque) would join the SWAL. A task force also voted against a proposal from Highland to switch to 8-player football. The SWC would add three schools- New Glarus, Cambridge and Marshall. The WIAA conference realignment task force will hear appeals from schools in January with the board of control to vote on the final plan in March.
