Maquoketa Caves State Park will reopen to the public on Thursday following a deadly shooting there last week. According to the Iowa DNR, the park will be open for day use starting at 10 a.m. The campground remains closed until further notice, and campers with reservations through Sunday, July 31, have been refunded. The park was closed Friday following a shooting at the campground that left three family members dead, along with the alleged shooter, 23 year old Anthony Sherwin of La Vista, Nebraska, who authorities said later shot and killed himself. 42 year old Tyler Schmidt, his wife, 42 year old Sarah Schmidt, and their daughter, 6 year old Lula Schmidt, all of Cedar Falls, were killed in the attack. According to a report, the state Division of Criminal Investigation continues to lead the investigation into the incident.
