A Dubuque man had to be airlifted to an Iowa City hospital following a motorcycle accident on Saturday evening in southern Grant County. A Grant County sheriff’s office report shows 39-year-old Justin Schemmel was going east on Sandy Hook Road in Jamestown Township around 6:45 p.m. The report says Schemmel lost control of his motorcycle while negotiating a curve at a high rate of speed. His bike went off the south side of the road and traveled about 60 feet before crashing. Schemmel was thrown from the motorcycle and came to rest in the roadway. Authorities say he wasn’t wearing a helmet. Schemmel was taken to MercyOne Medical Center in Dubuque and later airlifted to University of Iowa Hospital with serious injuries.
